Himalayan Treks/Temple Tours
Shakti Clinic is involved with medical/yoga/humanitarian treks to the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. Shakti Clinic is affiliated with CCODER (Center for Community Development and Research) based in Kathmandu, Kingdom of Nepal. These treks benefit the rural mountain communities, helping to create thriving and self-sustaining villages and uplift the status of women. CCODER has organized over 7000 villages, has helped create small businesses, community banks, schools, and a health program, all owned and operated by the villagers. Tourism is important to continue these efforts in alleviating rural poverty. The treks provide income and increase awareness of this mission for sustainability. These treks are unlike the commercial treks through Nepal, because these treks are "off the beaten path" and through CCODER trails and villages. It is an opportunity to see "the real Nepal" as it is lived by the people.
Treks start in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. After a couple days of temple tours, visiting the ancient cities and palace of the Shah Dynasty, and market places, trekking begins in the foothills, hiking through the beautiful and pristine mountain villages. This is an opportunity to experience village life as it was lived hundreds of years ago, close to the earth and with the traditions of that time. Accommodations are in tents while on the trail and in the villages, sometimes in the homes of the friendly villagers. Delicious meals are prepared by the porters who accompany the trekkers. Bags, tents, hygiene and other services are also provided by the porters and guides. The treks end back in Kathmandu for a couple days before return to the USA.
