Yoga
Yoga is the Sanskrit word meaning "to link", "unite", or "join together". It is the "linking together" of body, mind, and spirit. Hatha yoga classes taught through Shakti Center are based on the Himalayan Tradition of Raja Yoga (or Royal Path), consisting of the 8 limbs or categories of practice. The principle text is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The limbs or categories of practice: Yama-Correct Behavior, Niyama-Attitude of Mind, Asana-Body Posture, Pranayama-Breath Control, Pratyahara-Sensory Withdrawal, Dharana-Concentration, Dhyana-Meditation, Samadhi-Higher Consciousness.
Classes focus on asanas (postures) for managing health, relieving ailments, developing balance, developing concentration/mental focus and using the breath to calm the mind and spirit, as well as heal.
Nutrition
Classes focus on using "Food as Medicine", nutritional life style change, and herbal remedies. Proper nutrition can heal most ailments and maintain health.
